Hyderabad: Upset over family disputes, an alcohol-addicted man attacked his wife with an axe and struck his son too killing him on the spot. Fearing that his wife and son were dead, B Venkanna also hanged himself to a tree. The incident happened in Suryapeta district.
According to police, Venkanna, an auto driver from Maddirala in Suryapet, married his niece Gangamma nearly 13 years ago and they had two sons. One and half year back Venkanna fell in love with another girl, Swapna, and ran away with her and got married in Hyderabad. They returned to Suryapet and were staying with the first wife. Five months ago, Swapna delivered a male child after which differences between Gangamma and Swapna grew. They would often quarrel with each other.
Swapna’s mother Padma earlier lodged a kidnap complaint against Venkanna when he and Swapna ran away. Venkanna would quarrel with Swapna over it. He would get drunk and beat her.
On Wednesday night also, he came heavily drunk and picked up an argument with Swapna. As the argument grew, Venkanna in a fit of rage snatched his five-month-old son from Swapna’s arms and threw him to the ground. The child died on the spot. He took an axe and hit his wife on the throat killing her.
