Bengaluru: Couple commit suicide over financial stress

The couple was living on the first floor of the house which Mohan had constructed.

Bengaluru: Depressed over financial issues, a retired BEML employee and his wife consumed poison in a suicide pact at their residence in Basaveshwarnagar police limits on Thursday.

The deceased – Mohan (62) and his wife Nirmala (50) – were residents of Manjunathanagar.

The couple was living on the first floor of the house which Mohan had constructed. His son and daughter-in-law are living on another floor.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple had some financial issues and were depressed. They consumed poison on Thursday night. On Friday morning, their son tried calling them but received no response. When he broke open the door of the house, he found his parents lying dead.

He immediately alerted the police who rushed to the spot and found a suicide note written in Tamil, which stated that they were committing suicide over financial issues.

Basaveshwaranagar police have registered a case and are investigating.
