BENGALURU: A hotelier was thrashed black and blue with a lathiin public view with by an Assistant Commissioner of Police for keeping the hotel open till midnight. The entire act was caught on a CCTV camera installed at the hotel and is going viral.

The incident took place on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday at the Shetty Lunch Home on Dinnur Road in RT Nagar and the police officer in question is JC Nagar ACP Manjunath Babu.

It is learnt that the ACP along with other police officials was on night patrol when he saw the hotel open around 11.55 pm on Thursday. The ACP went inside and allegedly started abusing the hotel owner, Rajeev Shetty, for not sticking to the deadline and closing the hotel by 11 pm.

The officer allegedly beat up Rajeev with the lathi he was carrying even as the hotel owner pleaded for mercy. As the ACP started hitting the hotel owner, customers who were eating their dinner fled the spot.

Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar has ordered a departmental inquiry headed by DCP (North) Chethan Singh Rathor.
