CBI arrests another accused in West Bengal jobs scam

Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested a 63-year-old man on Monday in the West Bengal government school teachers' jobs scam.

Partha Sen, the accused, worked at a private firm, SN Basu Roy & Company that was entrusted for evaluation of the job applicants' answer sheets and preparation of their OMR sheets. He was on the job since 2007.

Producing Mr Sen at the Alipore Court later, the CBI submitted to the judge that the accused had tampered with the OMR sheets and created a list of 752 ineligible candidates out of whom 300 got jobs in 2017.

Mr Sen was remanded in CBI custody. Meanwhile Diamond Harbour Trinamul Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee's personal assistant Sumit Roy was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in the same case over eight hours.

Mr Roy appeared at the ED office in CGO Complex of Salt Lake in the morning after getting summons from the central agency. He was asked about the transactions through Leaps and Bounds company which Mr Banerjee earlier headed as the CEO.

Mr Roy earlier moved the Calcutta High Court for relief in the case but got no breather from questioning by the ED.
