VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada city police have raided 19 spa and massage centres in the city following complaints of unlawful activities.
Addressing media here on Saturday, Vijayawada DCP Vishal Gunni said 20 teams had simultaneously raided these centres operating in the city. They found evidence of cross massages and prostitution at these places by way of discarded contraceptives and so on.
Police have arrested six persons for running the racket, apart from seven customers. Three of the spas have been sealed and cases booked against them under relevant sections. Authorities are verifying whether or not these centres have taken relevant permissions or licenses.
The DCP said 18 victims have been rescued. They belonged to various places within AP and other states. Police will not allow any illegal activities or tolerate prostitution in the name of running spas and massage centres, he underlined.
Vishal asked public to intimate police immediately if they come across such illegal activities in their areas. The DCP announced that they will continue their raids for another week to check any illegal activities.
