Hyderabad: Cops slap PD Act to take on offenders

The police has come across food adulteration even by reputed companies.

Hyderabad: After arresting a man for selling oil extracted from the bones of pigs a month ago, the police has sealed a firm for selling adulterated oil, which hospitalised a man.

“We have the proprietor of Natraj Agro India Oil Factory, Shyam Sundar Loya, under custody and will be taking him for further legal proceedings,” said V. Satyanarayana, DCP south zone.

The police has come across food adulteration even by reputed companies.

“Even the branded companies sell spurious products and run their business,” said L. Raja Venkat Reddy, west zone task force inspector.

The police is armed with the PD Act to crack the whip on offenders. “Earlier, we used to book them under various sections in the IPC. However, they were not effective to deal with them. Now, we got an order to implement PD Act on offenders,” said another official.

To get a better result, the police is now sending the samples to laboratories in other states. We have seen adulterers approaching the local labs to get a favourable report, added Mr V. Satyanarayana.
