Hyderabad: A CCTV footage showing Meerpet sub inspector Venkataiah caning people came out on Friday. The footage shows the SI in plain clothes beating up people and abusing them. The Rachakonda police commissioner ordered an inquiry into the incident. The video dated October 11 was recovered from a shop in Bhupesh Gupta Nagar. In the video a constable in uniform is seen coming towards the public with a baton in his hand and directing them to vacate the place.
A few seconds later, SI Venkataiah, who is in plain clothes, comes to the spot and start directing people to disperse. He immediately started caning the public and slapped one person on his face. Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagawat said that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident. He said that a group of people who are accused in some cases and with a past criminal record are spreading this.
“Only half of the video is in circulation. This was done by a group of people who are involved in various cases. However, I have directed the joint commissioner of police to inquire into the issue. Based on the inquiry we will take action against whoever is responsible,” he said. Meerpet police said the incident happened on Dasara Day when a mob gathered and created nuisance. A rioting case was also registered and five persons were arrested based on evidence.
