Robbery case: Complainant woman cop turns accused

Had given contract to chop friend's hand.

Bengaluru: In a curious twist to a robbery incident reported at Bannerghatta police station on Sept.12, in which a 31-year-old man’s hand was chopped off by robbers, the arrest of the complainant (a woman traffic police constable) has turned the case on its head.

After the arrest of the 27-year-old Jayalakshmi, attached to V.V. Puram traffic police, it was found that she gave contract to three people to chop off the hand of her paramour Veeresh.

Along with Jayalakshmi, Kumar (45), a labourer at City market, his son Ananda (19) and Vijay (22) have also been arrested. While arresting Vijay, Deputy Superintendent of Police S.K. Umesh had to shoot on his leg, as he tried to escape while being escorted to the crime scene.

During the interrogation, the accused confessed to the police that Jayalakshmi had given the contract to attack Veeresh and carry his hand with them.

“Jayalakshmi had promised to pay Rs 1.5 lakh to Kumar after she got to know that he was a notorious rowdy. Jayalakshmi had paid Rs 15,000 in advance and even had carried out a dry run a week before the incident,” the police said.

Crime rehearsed a week ago Jayalakshmi took Veeresh to the Suvarnamukhi Temple a week before the incident and the accused tracked their movement.

Later on September 12 she walked with Veeresh and sat on a rock. After some time, Jayalakshmi gave a missed call to the accused after which the trio carried out the attack.

The police recovered severed arm was discarded in a pit located 300 metres from the spot. They also discarded the victim’s mobile phone and machete.

According to police, Jayalakshmi was in love with Veeresh before she married Raghvendra and continued with the affair. Raghavendra got to know about it and divorced her.

When Jayalakshmi approached Veeresh to marry her, he began making excuses.

When she got convinced that he would not marry her, she hatched this plan to cripple him.
