Mangaluru: Cyanide Mohan' gets 6 years for rape, murder

Mohan Kumar, who was working as a school teacher, is accused of luring and murdering 20 women by administering them cyanide.

Mangaluru: The sixth Additional District and Sessions Court in Mangaluru has sentenced to life Mohan, also known as 'Cynade Mohan,' for sexually assaulting a 22-year-old beedi worker and later murdering her. He was convicted by the court on September 13.

Mohan Kumar, who was working as a school teacher, is accused of luring and murdering 20 women by administering them cyanide. Due to his modus operandi, he is also called Cyanide Mohan.

Judge D.T. Puttarangaswamy also sentenced Mohan Kumar to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5,000 each for the offences under IPC Section 328 and 376. The court ordered rigorous imprisonment of six years and fine of Rs 4,000 for crime under Section 366, rigorous imprisonment of five years and fine of Rs 7,000 for crime under section 201 and 392 and six months of imprisonment for offences under section 417. All sentences would run concurrently.

Of the 20 cases, hearing of three murder cases - Anitha, Leelavathi and Sunanda had completed in 2013. A district court had then sentenced him to death which is yet to be confirmed by the High Court.

Friday's case was related to the murder of woman from Pattemajalu of Puttur Taluk. Her body was found in a public toilet at Madikeri bus stand on September 17, 2009.
