Hyderabad: 5 arrested for possessing abandoned gold bars
Hyderabad: The Secunderabad government railway police on Friday arrested five persons, including three licensed porters, who were trying to dispose of gold worth Rs 84 lakh which was found abandoned in the railway station premises.
The accused persons were identified as E. Ramakrishna, G. Naresh and D. Anjaiah, licensed porters at Nampally Railway station, and Syed Iqbal and Syed Sabir, auto drivers.
According to police, an unidentified passenger, who was carrying the gold bars, was planning to board Hazrat Nizamuddin bound Dakshin Express at Nampally station on Wednesday night. On seeing the GRP and RPF teams, which were conducting checks on the train, the passenger left the contraband on the platform. The porters, who were on the platform, noticed the bag. On checking, they found 28 gold bars inside it. They sought the help of Iqbal and Shabir and decided to share the booty equally.
Later, they dropped the plan and approached the chief ticket inspector. They were arrested and the gold bars were recovered from them. They were produced before the court. A manhunt is on to trace the passenger who abandoned the gold bars on the platform.
