Chennai: Chennai police on Friday said that since January 1 to September 10, they had arrested 2,392 people in connection with 2,236 gutka seizure cases in the city.
The police in a press release said that Rs 72 lakh worth 1.90 lakh packets of gutkha, 9591 kg gutka, pan masala etc were seized during the same period.
Four persons were also booked under goondas act. Police noted that that the drive against gutka was intensified during the last three months and a total of 1640 cases were registered during the time in which a total of 1728 people were arrested.
