Muhammed Aslam murder: IUML intensifies protests
KOZHIKODE: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will intensify its protest on the delay in arresting the accused in the murder of IUML worker Muhammed Aslam. The party said that the “ineffective” investigation team was delaying the whole process to help the accused. As a mark of protest, a sit-in will be held at Nadapuram town on September 21, said IUML Nadapuram secretary Punnackal Ahammed.
“It was the Chief Minister who first claimed that there were clear links leading to the killers. He had also promised that the accused would be caught within 24 hours. One month after the brutal murder, the investigation has hit a roadblock. Who is responsible for this? We are very suspicious that the reason behind the transfer of the earlier investigation head ASP R. Karappaswamy was to divert attention from the real culprits,” said Mr Ahammed.
It was on August 12 that Mr Aslam was hacked to death, allegedly by CPM workers. Aslam was one of the accused in the Thuneri Shibin murder case and he was among the whole list of accused who was recently acquitted. The transfer of the ASP comes soon after the custody of a CPM Vengalam branch secretary Anil Vengalam. There were allegations that the government took revenge against the police officer for conducting a search at the house of a CPM local leader. After the protest on Wednesday, on September 23, the Muslim Youth League will carry out a relay-satyagraha. On September 28, a UDF protest march will be taken out to the collectorate.
