Tirupati: Junior Student Attacks Two Medicos at SVMC Hostel
Tirupati: A junior student of Sri Venkateswara Medical College (SVMC) attacked his seniors with a surgical blade and a cricket stump within the college hostel premises during the early hours of Tuesday.
The assailant, identified as K. Ganesh (23), is a 2019-batch MBBS student hailing from Venkatagiri in Tirupati district. He allegedly assaulted his seniors Mahesh and Praveen in the hostel between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m., while reportedly being inebriated.
Tirupati West circle inspector Jaya Naik said the accused used a surgical blade to slash the throat of Mahesh, a final year MBBS student from Nandalur. Ganesh then attacked Praveen, another final year student from Palamaner, on the head with a cricket stump. The CI said the attack was due to disagreement over a trivial issue.
Mahesh underwent minor surgery at the SVR Ruia Hospital, while Praveen, who sustained a head injury, is currently under treatment at the same hospital.
Inspector Naik said they have registered a case and are investigating.
Police have sent blood samples of accused Ganesh to a laboratory for establishing whether the accused had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of attack.
