Hyderabad: A 22-year-old man who allegedly choked his wife to death after suspecting her fidelity and later tried to stage the death as a suicide was nabbed by Habeebnagar police.
According to the police, Mohd Imran, 22, a worker in a furniture store, had a love marriage with Shareefa Begum, also 22, about two years ago and the couple were staying in a rented house in Subhanpura of Habeebnagar.
The couple were initially happy but since the last few months, Imran allegedly started harassing her suspecting her fidelity, said police inspector of Habeeb Nagar, P. Madhukar Swamy. He added that she lost their first baby due to complications during delivery two months ago. “Shareefa delivered a lifeless baby recently at Niloufer Hospital, post which, the harassment increased. She often used to stay with her elder sister in the neighbourhood due to the constant fights,” police said. After their meal, he picked a fight over the same issue and allegedly throttled her with his hands. When she resisted, he banged her head against the wall and continued to throttle her. Imran was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
“He went to her sister’s place and informed her that Shareefa was lying unconscious in the house. He hired an auto-rickshaw and took her to Osmania General, where the doctors declared her brought dead. He told the medics there that she consumed an unknown poison,” added the police.
However, when her family suspected something fishy and alerted the police, Imran was questioned and he was arrested late Monday night.
