Chennai: Man murdered near police station as cops celebrate I-Day
Chennai: As the cops at Aminjikarai police station were celebrating Independence Day, a 23-year-old man was stabbed to death by a four-member gang only a few metres away from the police station on Wednesday morning. The victim was identified as R. Adityan (23) of Tirumangalam, who was working at a private telecom company.
Around 8.30 am, when Adityan was waiting at the Shanthi Colony bus stop on his two-wheeler, a four-member gang surrounded him and stabbed him multiple times.
The Aminjikarai police, who were in the midst of I-Day celebrations, rushed to the spot after hearing cries of passersby. However, the gang had escaped leaving Adityan in a pool of blood.
He was rushed Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital, but was declared brought dead.
Sources said he was the main accused in a murder case that took place in Ayanavaram in 2015. And the main suspect, Sandeepkumar, is an ambulance driver at a private hospital on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR).
Since Shanthi Colony falls under the jurisdiction of Anna Nagar police station, a case was registered and police nabbed Sandeepkumar of NSK Nagar within hours. A hunt has been launched for three others.
“Adityan had attacked Sandeepkumar earlier along with his friends when the latter confronted him for having issues with his brother Rajkumar and added that Sandeepkumar might have murdered to take revenge for the attack. Police are also inquiring whether Adityan was killed to avenge the murder he had committed in 2015,” the police said.
The police had launched a hunt to nab the remaining murderers.
