Tamil Nadu: Manja slits biker's throat

A ban on sale and usage of Manja threads has been in existence under section 71 of the city police act.

Chennai: Banned manja thread reared its ugly head on Monday evening after a loose thread slit the throat of a 28-year-old biker near Ennore. Luckily for the man, he survived with injuries and was administered five sutures in the neck, police said.

The victim, Dinesh is a resident of Samiyar thottam in Vyasarpadi. He was returning home on Monday evening along the Tiruvottiyur high road when the loose thread got entwined around his throat. In the attempt to untangle the thread, Dinesh lost control of his bike and suffered a fall, also suffering cut injuries. Passerby and onlookers rushed to the aid of Dinesh and moved him to a private hospital nearby where he was administered sutures for his cut injuries.

Dinesh’s accident meant that other motorists trailing him became wary and altered their routes. Tiruvottiyur police have registered a case and have launched a hunt for the miscreants who flew kites using the manja thread.
