Hoax calls: No pakistani held so far, say cops

Police officials say it is nearly impossible to nab the main suspects who reside in Pakistan.

Hyderabad: The hoax phone call scam appears to be well organised and pulled off by criminals who can speak Hindi and English and also have good marketing skills.

Since most of such calls are made from a + 92 number, the country code of Pakistan, it is being assumed that a group of Pakistanis are involved.

In the cases detected so far, no Pakistani national has been arrested, only their Indian handlers have been held.

Police officials say it is nearly impossible to nab the main suspects who reside in Pakistan.

The Pakistani suspects involved in similar cases in 2014, which were investigated by the Central Crime Station (CCS), are still absconding.

As per the information gathered by the CCS police, who recently arrested an Indian handler, the Pakistani callers operate from call centres after accessing the phone numbers from the huge data base available on the Internet.

Investigation officials could not collect the identity details and location of the suspects, because the Pakistani mobile service provider would not reveal them.

In a recent case, CCS cops secured the names of two Pakistani nationals after grilling the Indian handler. They are not even sure if they have got those names correct.

“One middle man who knows a lot of about the Pakistanis is still absconding. His arrest might help us get more details”, said an official.

Cops say they may try to get a red corner notice issued, which is the closest instrument to an international warrant. But, arresting them will not be easy.
