Hyderabad: Woman fights off chain-snatcher

Victim refuses to file complaint, but cops increase vigil in the area.

Hyderabad: Chain-snatchers struck again on the city's outskirts but failed to rob a woman as she resisted strongly. The incident happened in Vanasthalipuram police station limits on Monday morning. The victim, Pinki, 29, is a resident of Jahangirnagar in Chintalmet. On Monday morning she was returning home from the market after purchasing vegetables. She got down from an autorickshaw on the main road and was walking into the lane leading to her house.

“After I walked a few meters an unidentified person came from behind on a bike at a very high speed and tried to pull off my 2.5 tola gold chain. I held my chain strongly and started shouting loudly,” she said. When she started shouting on the top of her voice the biker fled towards the main road and disappeared. Passersby tried to chase him but the snatcher rode at high speed and escaped.

Later, the woman went home with the help of her husband who came to the spot. She did not lodge any complaint with the police. “We did not get any complaint regarding the incident. But we have increased vigil in the area as a precautionary measure,” an official from Vanasthalipuram police station said. Police did not get any clues as there were no CCTV cameras in the area.
