Desperate for a job? Double check before you double click' on that link online!

The CBI has filed a criminal case against them for cheating several job seekers by creating a fake Railway Recruitment Board website.

Bengaluru: Are you in search of a job? Or keen on getting into government service? Then better double check before you apply 'online', as cases of false government websites are becoming very common. These appear genuine, with tests and offers of appointment letters until one realises that one is actually duped! In some cases, it becomes very hard when the government employees themselves are accused of running the job scam.

In a similar case, the CBI had recently booked four travelling ticket examiners working at Mysuru Sleeper Depot and Sleeper South Western Railway. The CBI has filed a criminal case against them for cheating several job seekers by creating a fake Railway Recruitment Board website.

One of the four accused has approached the high court seeking anticipatory bail and according to the CBI the accused persons had invited applications for various posts in the Indian Railways through a fake website. It is alleged that they had conspired with other unidentified officials of South Western Railway and in pursuit of such criminal conspiracy had created a false website with the name Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), Chennai and promised employment with the Indian Railways as Ticket Collectors/ASMs and had collected a huge amount of money from several unsuspecting candidates. They also issued false and fabricated appointment letters to many candidates from whom they collected money, promising them employment with the Indian Railways.

They even held fake medical tests, and later issued fake appointment letters. Based on this information the CBI, prima facie found some material to investigate the matter and therefore registered a case.

"The objection statement filed by the CBI reveals that a lot of persons were involved in connection with this case and the police have to unearth the truth of the allegations made against the petitioner, particularly when the investigation is at the threshold and sufficient material is available against the petitioner. In my opinion, it is not a fit case to grant anticipatory bail. Therefore, the petition is liable to be dismissed," the high court ordered in a statement dated 29 June.
