Hyderabad: Wine shop looted as cops conduct search

Police seize 41 bikes, 15 autos, and two cars.

Hyderabad: Thieves broke into a wine shop shop in Abdullapurmet early even as the police were conducting cordon and search operation in a neighbouring area, under the same police station limits on Sunday.

Early on Sunday, about 200 police personnel, including LB Nagar deputy commissioner of police M, Venkateshwar Rao, Additional deputy commissioner of police (crimes) K.R. Nagaraju, three assistant commissioners of police and 16 inspectors cordoned off the JNNURM Colony in Abdullapurmet in order to verify the credentials of the residents.

The police, during the operation, detained 41 bikes, 15 autos, and two cars, besides registering two cases against vendors of banned tobacco products, one person for selling liquor illegally. The police also took 11 people into custody to verify their antecedents.

When the police were busy in this operation, unidentified suspects looted Nava Durga wine shop, which is about 3.4 km away from the JNNURM Colony.

The suspects broke open the locked shutter of the wine shop and took away '8,000 cash and some liquor bottles, and also the hard disk of a computer that contained the footage of the CCTV Cameras installed in the shop. The shop owner realised the theft in the morning, and complained to the police.

Abdullapurmet inspector D. Muni said, “The theft is suspected to have taken place during the wee hours on Sunday when the cordon and search operation was under way.”

We are verifying the footage of other cameras installed in the vicinity to identify the time of offence and also the suspects involved in “the heistk,” the police official said.
