Kollam: Aadu Antony judgment deferred
KOLLAM: The Kollam district principal sessions court on Friday postponed to July 20 the judgment in the case in which notorious criminal Aadu Antony had killed a police constable at Parippally on June 26, 2012. The trial in the case was completed within a month’s time as per schedule on Thursday.
Antony Varghese, 48, alias Aadu Antony, had allegedly murdered constable Maniyan Pillai and stabbed ASI Joy of Parippally police station after the duo interrogated him at Parippally. ASI Joy stated before the court that he had found an omni van under suspicious circumstances near Jawahar Junction at Kulamada on the Parippally – Nilamel road while he was returning after patrolling duty on the fateful day.
Joy asked Antony who was in the van to switch on the lights and get out of the vehicle. On inspecting the vehicle, Joy found a bag which contained iron tools, including screwdriver. Joy locked the door of the van and kept the key on the dashboard of the police jeep. Maniyan Pillai got onto the driver’s seat and Joy made Antony get into the back of the jeep.
Joy went to take the bag and on coming back, he saw Antony gripping Maniyan Pillai after stabbing him with a knife. Joy was also stabbed by Antony, who fled from the scene in his van. Antony was arrested in October last year. Mr G. Mohanraj is the special prosecutor in the case. Aadu Antony has 27 cases against him in the district alone. The court examined 30 witnesses in the case.
