Hyderabad: A six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her friend’s father at Malakpet on Thursday. The incident happened when the girl arrived at her friend’s home for a sleepover. The incident came to light on Friday morning when the victim approached her father — crying in pain. Police arrested one P. Srinivas, who is a friend of the victim’s father.
Officials said the victim is the daughter of a GHMC staffer. After her mother’s death, she would spend time at Srinivas' home — playing with his four daughters — while her father was out for work. She would also spend nights there. But on Thursday, as she slept, Srinivas came home drunk and picked up an argument with his wife, who then left the house for her own home at Moula Ali around midnight, leaving the victim and her own daughter — the youngest — behind with Srinivas.
“We believed the crime happened around midnight and then in the morning, the girl went crying to her father and told him about the incident,” Malakpet Inspector A. Ganga Reddy said.
Police registered a rape case and arrested Srinivas, who will also face charges under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The victim has been admitted at Niloufer hospital where her condition is said to be stable.
Police added that Srinivas has also been involved in at least six cases of theft across the city and had been marked out a habitual offender.
