Tea vendor involved in 14 thefts held, Rs 30 lakh recovered

The officials recovered articles worth Rs 30 lakh and a kilogram of cannabis from his possession.

Hyderabad: CCS Madhapur nabbed a tea vendor in Narsingi on Friday who had committed 14 house theft and has over 50 pending cases on him. The officials recovered articles worth Rs 30 lakh and a kilogram of cannabis from his possession.

Manjula Chandrashekar, 31, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, committed house burglaries in Narsingi, RC Puram, Pet Basheerabad, Dundigal, Vizag and Guntur, said A. Venkateshwar Rao, DCP, Madhapur zone.

“Manjula would locate villas and independent houses using Google Maps and would enter through window grills and sliding doors. At times, he would even break open door locks to access the house,” said the official.

The accused is a school dropout and came to the city in 2009. Manjula had previously been arrested by the Cyberabad and Anantapur police stations and P.D. Act was invoked against him in 2015. He was a cannabis addict and also consumed alcohol. To fund his addictive habits, Manjula started committing house theft. Officials recovered a total of seven tola of gold articles, four wrist watches, eight cell phones amounting to Rs 30 lakh.
