Sexual harassment case: Counter complaint filed

BENGALURU: The Whitefield police investigating the sexual harassment case filed by a woman against school bus drivers, has now received a counter complaint by one of the drivers. The incident reportedly took place on June 7. A police officer ,who is a part of the probe, told Deccan Chronicle, "We received a complaint from the driver as well who stated that he is innocent. He had written a formal complaint where he also stated that the woman had threatened him of dire consequences.

On the basis of the complaint lodged, we have registered a case under section 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal code and probe is underway." He further said that the team had visited the spot and questioned the locals in the area. "The probe is underway and we are still working on it," the officer added.

The driver in his complaint to the Whitefield police said, "The allegations made against me are false and baseless. I was sitting with few others, when without provocation; the woman started using unparliamentarily language." The complaint given to police read, "On June 7 noon, after finishing our day at work, few of us had parked our two-wheelers under the tree in front of the school and were sitting when we noticed the woman trying to deflate the tyres of our vehicles."

When the complainant approached her and questioned her over the same, the woman allegedly used singulars at him and others and even threatened them of dire consequences. The complaint further read that "Before we could say anything the woman started to abuse us. She used singulars at us and called us - You B****, loafers. You beggars-- I will teach you all a lesson and threatened us."

To their shock, the woman later approached the Whitefield police station on June 8 and registered a case against the driver under various sections which include Sexual harassment under section 354 A, 506(Punishment for criminal intimidation), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 34 of Indian Penal Code.
