Wife and sister of Mohammad Fasal welcome court verdict

Fasal, a former CPM worker, was hacked to death on October 22, 2006, after he switched his allegiance to the PFI.

KANNUR: The CBI Court’s dismissal of re-probe into the murder of Popular Front of India (PFI) worker Mohammad Fasal in Thalassery has revealed cracks within the family. It was Abdul Sathar, his brother, who approached the court after the "revelation" of RSS worker Subeesh Embramkandy to the police that he killed him. But Fasal’s elder sister Ramla and his wife welcomed the court's decision.
“It’s most welcome," Ms Ramla told reporters.

“The conspiracy to acquit CPM of the gruesome murder has been foiled. We firmly believe what CBI had found, that CPM killed my brother.” Another brother, Abdul Rahman, is also of the opinion that not CPM but RSS was behind the murder. Ms Ramla urged them to stop being puppets in the hands of CPM either by coercion or threat and speak the truth.

“They might be influenced or threatened. It’s nonsense to take into account the words of Subeesh. He himself had confessed that his admission to police officers was made under duress,” she said. His wife Mariyu hailed the verdict, saying the police extracted the confession from Subeesh by torturing him.
