Hyderabad: Police investigating the suicides of Kuknoorpally sub-inspector Prabhakar Reddy and Hyderabad-based beautician Sirisha says the team has been able to piece together some crucial pieces of the story.
The sources said Sirisha was in a relationship with her boss Rajiv but it had gone sour. Sravan, a common friend of Sirisha and SI Prabhakar Reddy, had suggested that the woman and Rajiv approach the policeman to settle their dispute amicably. However, things took an ugly turn at the SI’s quarters, leading to Sirisha’s suicide and later Reddy’s.
According to police, enquiries they conducted at a number of places on Thursday confirmed that Sravan had offered to mediate between Sirisha and Rajiv and took them to Reddy’s quarters to arrive at a settlement. But at the policeman’s house, all four allegedly consumed alcohol. Reddy is alleged to have attempted to sexually assault Sirisha, which she resisted.
Sirisha, Sravan and Rajiv then started back to Hyderabad to go to the latter’s office. On the way, however, Sirisha is said to have attempted to jump out of the running vehicle. An enraged Rajiv assaulted her.
Police said that although there were injury marks on Sirisha due to the assault and they were still awaiting the autopsy report, Sirisha may have committed suicide unable to bear all this harassment.
Police said they reconstructed the scene of offences at both RJ Studio, Rajiv’s company, and at the Kuknoorpally police quarters. They have seized the vehicle, mobile phones and CCTV records from the studio.
Meanwhile, autopsy on the SI’s body was conducted in the early hours of Thursday at Siddipet Government Hospital, as police feared protests by NGOs and villagers over his death. After completing the autopsy, his body was shifted to his hometown for final rites amid security. Reddy’s family members confronted senior officials who attended the funeral and demanded a fair inquiry into the case. Police are likely to arrest Rajiv and Sravan soon.
