Hyderabad: Edi Bazaar graveyard has been encroached, says plaint

The police reached the graveyard and found an earth mover machine and a group of men in operation at the site.

Hyderabad: Residents of Kanchanbagh in Old City lodged a complaint with Madannapet police alleging that the community graveyard in Edi Bazaar was being encroached upon.

Talla Babu (65), an ex serviceman, stated in the complaint that some persons entered the area located under Madannapet police station limits and destroyed some graves and were in the process of encroaching on the land.

Based on the information, police arrived at the spot to find an earth mover machine in operation, with a group of men supervising the work. Mr Babu called the demolitions illegal and said that the action hurts the sentiments of people who have their predecessors buried in the place.In the complaint, he named Saleem, Bal Venkateshsagar, Raghu Sagar and Vishnu Sagar as the persons involved in the illegal operation.

The complaint was lodged in Madannapet police station and a case has been registered under charges of trespassing into burial places and mischief. “We have registered a case and have also written a letter to the concerned revenue authorities to find out the current status of the land. Based on the report and other evidences, we will proceed.” Madannapet SI V. Prasad said.
