Chennai: Man held for stealing, renting out friend’s car

The accused identified as Sathish( 30) of Kasturi Bai Nagar in West Tambaram had used duplicate keys to steal his friend’s car.

Chennai: A 30-year-old man was arrested by the police for stealing his friend’s car and renting it out.

The accused identified as Sathish( 30) of Kasturi Bai Nagar in West Tambaram had used duplicate keys to steal his friend’s car.

According to the police, Thiagarajan( 32) of East Tambaram runs a mobile showroom in the city. He had been friends with the accused since schooling. Sources said Thiagarajan used to park his Maruthi swift car at his other friend’s place since he did not have space for parking near his house.

Meanwhile, On Tuesday Thiagarajan found his car missing from his friend’s place and enquired about it. He was shocked to learn Sathish had allegedly drove the car a week ago. Thiagarajan tried to contact Sathish but he couldn’t reach him.

Following which he lodged a complaint with the Tambaram police. a case was registered and a manhunt launched.

A special team was formed and he was nabbed by the team on Wednesday.

Investigation revealed, Sathish had stolen the car using the duplicate key and after stealing the car, he allegedly posted advertisements on a website offering to rent the car.

He also rented the car to a man in Trichy, police said. Police recovered the car form him.
