Hyderabad: Rights body urges action against cops

The police threatened the girl at gunpoint and threatened to kill her if her mother did not accept theft of the gold from the flat.

Hyderabad: The Balala Hakkula Sangham has asked the DGP and the Principal Secretary of Home Affairs to take action against the Sanathnagar police for threatening a 14-year-old girl with a gun for her mother refusing to accept that she committed theft at her work place. Police denied the allegations.

The Sangham claimed that police summoned the woman Haseena working as a domestic help in a flat in Janapriya Apartments and her 14-year-old daughter to question them in a theft case. “The police threatened the girl at gunpoint and threatened to kill her if her mother did not accept theft of the gold from the flat," honorary president Achyuta Rao said, adding that this act of the police is a severe violation of child rights.

Senior officers said the house owner found 40 tolas of gold missing from home. He said that he suspected Haseena and her daughter of the offence. "As per their suspicion we summoned them and after examining them let them off. The allegations that they were threatened are false," they said.
