Hyderabad: Businessman arrested for spoiling rival's image
Hyderabad: A businessman was arrested by Cyber Crime Police for damaging the reputation of his rival firm through emails. Police said T.P. Jolly, from Tamil Nadu, levelled baseless allegations and defamed his rival's firm to damage their reputation in the US market. The Cyber Crime Police received a complaint from the victim, the director of a Seafood company in Jubilee Hills who exports to US- based companies, stating that the accused had levelled baseless allegations and had sent anonymous mails to their client company in the US with very damaging content. The same thing was sent to the US print and web media. The victim company is expected to suffer huge financial losses and loss of image due to the allegations.
Based on the complaint, Cyber Crime Police started an investigation, during which they obtained the IP details of the email used for the commission of offence and zeroed in on the prime accused, T.P. Jolly and his associates, who were competitors of the complainant. Police said they conspired and sent fake emails to spoil the business of the complainant in the US.
The court convicted T.P. Jolly under Sec. 66-A of the Information Technology Act and Section 419 and 420 of IPC and sentenced him to six months rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000.
