Thiruvananthapuram: Eight months pregnant woman kills self

The woman was alone in the room with an elderly woman bystander just before the incident.

Thiruvananthapuram: In the second such incident this week, a woman who was eight months pregnant jumped to her death from the top of a private hospital near Murinjapalam on Saturday. She jumped from the eighth floor of the hospital at around 2.30am.

The deceased was identified as Resmi Gopal, 32, daughter of Gopal and Radha of Kanayannur, Ernakulam district. The deceased, a staffer at the Legislative assembly was living at Pangappara.

According to the Medical College Police, she was admitted to hospital on April 11 due to chronic depression. The woman was alone in the room with an elderly woman bystander just before the incident.

She sprang up from the bed, opened the sliding window in her ward and jumped down onto the parking area. She was taken to the emergency wing with fractures all over the body and head injuries. However she passed away a few minutes later.

The body was handed over to relatives after autopsy. Resmi leaves behind husband N K Shiju who was in Ernakulam at the time of the incident.

Hospital officials said that safety nets had been installed on various floors on the quadrangle here to prevent people falling to their death. However, it is believed that the victim chose to jump from a section without nets.

Earlier this week, a woman had jumped to her death from the top of a private hospital at Edappazhinji.
