Chennai: Rs 5.35 lakh lost in three robberies and burglary
Chennai: Around Rs 5.5 lakh were stolen on Thursday night from three people in the city. Three cases of robberies and one burglary were recorded.
According to sources, Lokesh (48), a resident of Modern city in Avadi, is working in Heavy Vehicle Factory at Avadi.
On Thursday, his wife and daughter had left for their native while he left for the night shift.
“On Friday morning when he came back home, he found the house burgled where Rs 3 lakh and one sovereign gold chain were burgled,” said a police officer.
Police also said that the miscreants had attempted to break into four houses on the same street but did not steal anything.
The Pattabiram police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
Mukesh, who owns a wholesale stationery store at George Town had asked his staffer P. Vasanth (18) to take cash from the bank on Thursday evening.
Vasanth took the cheque to a private bank on Ratan Bazaar salai around 2.15pm. He placed the cash in a plastic bag and was returning home. When he was passing by Govindappa-Adiyappa road junction, someone tapped on his shoulder.
When Vasanth turned around to look who it was, an unidentified man snatched the plastic bag from his hand and merged in the crowd.
Based on his complaint, Flower Bazaar police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
Meanwhile, a 40-year-old was robbed of Rs 35,000 and a mobile phone at knifepoint by a bike-borne duo in Maduravoyal.
Ramadoss of Nazarethpet withdrew the cash at an ATM at Erikarai bus stop in Maduravoyal and was on his way home.
At Karambakkam, two bike-borne men intercepted him on a deserted road and robbed him of valuables before fleeing the spot. Based on his complaint, Maduravoyal police have registered a case and have launched a hunt for the offenders.
