Hyderabad: Gold heist case solved, Rs 6 lakh booty seized

The city police on Thursday caught a property offender who was allegedly involved in the theft at a gold ornament workshop in Petlaburj.

HYDERABAD: The city police on Thursday caught a property offender who was allegedly involved in the theft at a gold ornament workshop in Petlaburj, that was reported earlier this month. They recovered property worth '6 lakh from his possession.

Anjani Kumar, the Police Commissioner of Hyderabad, said that Amjad Khwaja Ameen Shaik, 41, from Mumbai planned and executed the heist along with nine others.

Members of the gang conducted a recce of the workshop before the heist.
“On March 6, members of the gang barged into the workshop armed with weapons. They took away gold weighing about 3.5 kg,” said Mr Kumar.

He said that Amjad had been keeping watch on the activities of Nithai Das, the owner of the workshop who also owns another shop in Mumbai.

Amjad was arrested by the police on Thursday, and some of the stolen property was recovered from him.
