MP: Govt school teacher arrested for raping minor student
Bhopal: A 58-year-old teacher of a government school has been arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl student inside the campus in Bhopal, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place on Wednesday in the office room of the primary school located in Awadhpuri on the city outskirts, City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Virendra Mishra said.
After the classes finished, accused Mohan Singh called two girls to the office room on the pretext of some work.
Subsequently, he told one of the girls to leave but asked the 11-year-old victim to stay back and later sexually assaulted her after locking up the room, he said.
The accused was arrested last evening under relevant sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, after the victim's family registered a police complaint.
According to police, the victim, a Class II student, had been complaining to her mother that she was being beaten up and molested by the teacher since December last year.
However, her mother, who is a domestic help at the residence of the accused, ignored her complaint thinking that her daughter was trying to avoid school and evade studies and hence the teacher must have punished her.
At times, the mother also used to take the girl along with her for help in domestic chores at Singh's residence, the police complaint said.
