Bengaluru: Income Tax department raids three MLCs

According to unconfirmed sources, the three had failed to submit their income tax returns for the financial year.

BENGALURU: The Directorate of Income Tax, Karnataka on Tuesday morning raided the residence of Parliamentary Secretary and Member of Legislative Council (MLC) K. Govindaraju along with two other MLCs – U. Mallikarjun (Independent) and C.R. Manohar (JD-S), the producer-turned-politician for alleged unaccounted assets and wealth.

In early morning operations, the I-T sleuths conducted simultaneous search and seizure operations at Govindaraju’s house in Indiranagar, Manohar’s house in Sarjapur and Mallikarjun’s house in Jayanagar and allegedly seized several incriminating documents and unaccounted wealth and assets from the three premises.

According to unconfirmed sources, the three had failed to submit their income tax returns for the financial year Mr Govindaraju is also the president of Karnataka Olympic Association and a close confidante of CM Siddaramaiah. “Based on inputs, the I-T Department routinely conducts search and seizure operations. The process will take some time to complete,” said an official source.
