Friend of slain Youth Congress leader recounts terror
KANNUR: Slain Youth Congress leader S.P. Shuhaib was hacked like meat by the killers on Monday night, according to Shuhaib's friend E. Noushad, who was also attacked by the gang. "Shuhaib used to get internet calls from people abroad threatening to kill him. Recently, he said that he was being followed by someone in a car. He was expecting a deadly attack any time," said Noushad in the hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, the sword used to hack Shuhaib was recovered on Thursday. Wrapped in red cloth, it was found abandoned in a plot of land at Mattannur. Forensic experts will examine it to confirm the bloodstain on it. It is suspected that the inmates who were with Shuhaib in the jail were behind the attack. Congress leader K. Sudhakaran alleged that there were attempts to kill Shuhaib inside the jail itself. Another inmate Farseen Majeed also confirmed that Shuhaib was attacked inside jail and was threatened.
KPCC president M.M. Hassan said that the police were inactive. Even three days after the brutal murder, no accused was arrested. Addressing a hunger strike by Youth Congress parliamentary constituency president Joshi Kandathil in Kannur, he said that UAPA should be slapped in the murder case. He also criticised the chief minister for not visiting the spot and condemning the killers so far. The Congress will take care of the family of Shuhaib, he said. A fund collection for the family will be held on February 22.
