Hyderabad: 2 MDs arrested for assault on minor at old age home
Hyderabad: Two managing directors of the Akshaya Old Age Home were arrested by the police for raping a minor girl for months in their office at LB Nagar. The 15-year-old girl had been sexually abused since June 2016, but the criminal behaviour of the two men only came to light in the first week of February.
After the case was registered, both the suspects initially went missing. Forty-eight-year-old G Manik Rao and 42-year-old A Srinivas Rao had employed the girl in the old age home located at Co-operative Colony in LB Nagar. One more suspect in the case, Veni Gopal, an employee of the home, is still absconding.
The police investigation has revealed that Manik Rao, Srinivas Rao and Venu Gopal began molesting the girl soon after she started working there. “For over six months, they sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions in the building and office. Her relatives, who were also earlier working in the home, had quit their jobs and had left. So the minor girl had nobody else whom she could tell about the ongoing sexual assault,” said an investigation officer.
The 15-year-old girl from Ratnampet in Rajahmundry was employed as a helper in the home for a salary of Rs 3,000. After her father's death, her mother married again and abandoned her.
Recently, her uncle visited her at the home and she complained to him of pain. She was taken to a doctor where she revealed what had been happening to her for the last many months. The LB Nagar police booked a case under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (rape), and under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
