Kochi: The police team in the city has arrested a person allegedly involved in cheating Rs 25 lakh from actor Kunchacko Boban in connection with a real estate deal. The Kadavanthara police has identified the accused as P.J. Varghese, 52, son of Pulitmootil Joseph, Kanchiyar near Kattappana. The accused had promised to make the actor a partner in the real estate deal and then decamped with Rs 25 lakh.
Varghese came to contact with the actor in connection with transaction of a property in Puthen Cruz and collected the amount. Since the transaction was delayed the accused had entered into an agreement to selling the land in his name at Kanchiyar to actor. But after signing the agreement the accused mortgaged the same property without knowledge of the actor. The actor registered a complaint as he realized he was cheated.
Varghese, residing in the city, went into hiding after the case was registered against him. He was taken into custody from Kattappana by a team headed by Kadavanthara sub-inspector Sajeev.
