FIR in Jagan case unwarranted, India Cements tells High Court

T. Niranjan Reddy, representing India Cements, submitted that the CBI had registered the case against his client based on apprehensions

Hyderabad: Justice Ujjal Bhuyan of Telangana High Court on Wednesday heard the quash petition filed by India Cements, seeking to set aside the FIR registered against it by CBI, in relation to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s quid pro quo cases.

T. Niranjan Reddy, senior counsel representing India Cements, submitted that the CBI had registered the case against his client based on apprehensions. They alleged that India Cements had invested in Raghuram Cements because of allocation of water by the then Andhra Pradesh government to one of the plants belonging to India Cements, which is situated in Andhra Pradesh.

The Andhra Pradesh government had not allotted water, electricity and other facilities only to India Cements but six to seven more cement factories in the State as per its industrial policy. Moreover, the then government had in 2001 provided a water facility to a cement plant.

Niranjan Reddy said the CBI was in apprehension that the investments were made for the facilities extended by the government in 2005.
