Vijayawada: While the Commissioner and other officials are trying their best to make the city more beautiful and green, ground-level officers of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation are interested in making money and turn a blind eye to illegal constructions. Rules are blatantly being violated during the construction of buildings.
It has become a matter of routine for builders to construct buildings as they wish, without adhering to the plans approved by the VMC, and then get their constructions regularised by paying a fine. Ground-level officers collude with the builders in exchange for kickbacks.
When violators are presented before higher officials, they don’t seem to be bothered by the gross violation of regulations because they already know what is happening. Though officials of the VMC and the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) have been issuing warnings and asking builders not to violate the rules.
