Hyderabad: Interpol may probe gold heist
Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police, who arrested four Nigerian nationals in connection with the sensational 3.5 kg gold heist hatched by an international gang in Kukatpally on April 16, is planning to issue a red corner notice against the four absconding foreign nationals, including a Nigerian national and three persons from Peru.
The suspects, who had taken shelter in a city hotel, found a gold merchant, Abhishek Agarwal, returning with gold. After making his car tyres go flat, they decamped with the booty, while he was busy replacing the tyres.
After the chargesheet was filed, a city court issued non-bailable warrants against the absconding foreign nationals, including a woman. Though the suspects were arrested in June 2017, the chargesheet was filed recently.
Mr Vishwa Prasad, DCP Shamshabad, said a proposal will be forwarded to the state CID who will get in touch with the Union home ministry and the Interpol. “Once the red corner notice is issued, they can be arrested at any airport in the country and the Interpol can also nab them in their own country,” he said.
The police examined 150 CCTVs in the city and in Bengaluru and travelled to Nepal via Kolkata in search of the suspects.
They were shocked to find that the kingpins had fled the country with the gold.
Investigating officials said that the value of the stolen gold may be worth '8.75 crore, but the process of nabbing the suspects may cost the department more than the gold’s value.
