Hyderabad: Conman dupes jewellers, held

Jain had been roaming abroad to escape the police and his business partners.

Hyderabad: South zone police arrested a notorious conman named Bipin Jain who allegedly cheated gold and diamond merchants in the city. Wanted in various police stations across the city, Jain had been roaming abroad to escape the police and his business partners. Police seized four kg gold from him after his arrest.

A resident of Somajiguda, Bipin Jain duped many gold merchants in Hyderabad and other cities pretending to be a businessman. He bought gold from them on credit after making a good impression, and then sold it after melting it into ingots.

“He was actually playing a commission agent pretending to be a merchant. He owed lakhs to merchants who approached the police when they did not get back the money. While he was hustling his way up he earned a lot and started spending lavishly. But, his partners were not paid their dues. This has been going on since two years,” said a police official.

Based on the complaints lodged by gold merchants, the CCS police, Abid police and Punjagutta police booked cheating cases. This year, he lured a gold merchant from Chennai and bought around nine kg gold promising hefty profits.

He paid a part and the rest was credit. But, later he did not pay. Meanwhile, another gold merchant approa-ched the police alleging cheating by Jain.
To avoid arrest, he and his family fled to Bangkok using the visa-on-arrival facility. “After that he went to Indonesia and then Kathmandu. He returned via road to India to avoid immigration officials,” DCP S. Sathyanarayana said.
