Bengaluru: 8 police officers dismissed for involvment in dacoity

The eight had been arrested for robbing legal tender of Rs 2,000 and Rs 100 denominations on the pretext of offering demonetised currencies.

Bengaluru: The city police cracked the whip on Wednesday and dismissed eight police officers, including a police sub-inspector, for involving in a dacoity taking advantage of post-demonetisation currency deals.

The eight police personnel had been arrested for robbing legal tender of
Rs 2,000 and Rs 100 denominations on the pretext of offering demonetised currencies for a commission. They were dismissed under Article 311(2)(b) of the Constitution, read a circular from the police department.

“With this circular, the police department has sent out a stern warning to all its uniformed personnel. It is proof that there the attitude of ‘fence-eating-crop’ by certain uniformed personnel will not be tolerated,” a senior police officer said. The dismissed cops are Sub-Inspector N.C. Mallikarjun, and four police constables – Manjunatha Moggad, L.K. Girish, Chandrashekar and Anantharaju, all attached to the Kalsasipalya police station. They had robbed Rs 35.5 lakh and the case was registered at the Peenya police station.

Two policemen, who were involved in robbing a businessman of Rs 8 lakh, were also stripped of their uniforms. The two have been identified as police constables Mayura and Raghava Kumar, both attached to the Girinagar police station. The case had been filed in the same police station.

A police constable with the Central Crime Branch too has been dismissed because of his involvement in a dacoity case where Rs 22.3 lakh was robbed from a complainant who registered a case at the Magadi Road police station. The dismissed constable has been identified as B. Shesha, the circular read.
