45 sovereigns gold burgled from house of airport employee at Anakaputhur

Sources said when Gajendran returned home on Thursday morning, he found the house doors open.

Chennai: At least 45 sovereigns of gold jewellery and two kilograms of silver articles were burgled from the locked house of an airport employee at Anakaputhur near Pallavaram on Wednesday night. The burglary came to light after the resident came home on Thursday morning.

Police said Gajendran (50), a resident of Thendral Nagar in Anakaputhur, is the Assistant Superintendent of the Chennai International Airport fire department. The burglary happened when Gajendran had gone to work on Wednesday morning while his wife was at a relative's place in the city.

Sources said when Gajendran returned home on Thursday morning, he found the house doors open. He rushed inside to find the bureau had been forced open and contents were strewn about. At least 45 sovereigns of gold jewellery and two kilograms silver articles were missing. Subsequently, he lodged a complaint at the Shankar Nagar police station that someone had entered into the house in the family's absence and decamped with gold and silver jewelry.

The Shankar Nagar police have registered a case. Police were checking footage from CCTV cameras in the area. The forensic department officials lifted fingerprints and further investigations are on.
