Man kills wife, mom-in-law, hangs self in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: A 50-year-old construction labourer hung himself after murdering his wife and mother- in-law by slitting their throats in Pollachi, over a family dispute. Police said that Babu, a construction labourer, was a resident of Podanur. His wife, Sumathi (42), left the house a couple of years ago, after Babu started to frequently quarrel with her, as the couple did not have children despite being married for 15 years. Sumathi was living with her mother Visalathchi (60), at CTC Colony in Pollachi. Babu would often visit her and quarrelwith her after getting drunk.
Sumathi sent a legal notice to Babu recently, demanding divorce. On receiving the legal notice, Babu’s temper flared up and he went to Sumathi’s house on Tuesday night. She refused to open the door, and Babu kept on banging the door, and he verbally abused her. After some time, Sumathi's mother Visalathchi opened the door and told him to leave the place. In a flare, Babu slit her throat with a knife that he was carrying. On hearing her screams, Sumathi came out of the house running. At once, Babu murdered Sumathi also by pushing her down and slitting her throat too.
Immediately after, Babu went inside and committed suicide by hanging himself in the ceiling fan.
