Guntur: V A A Lakshmi and her hubby arrested
Guntur: At last the police nabbed professor V.A.A. Lakshmi and her husband professor G. Vijaya Saradhi after 21 days. Police said Lakshmi and Vijaya Saradhi were tracked down to Bengaluru as they were travelling in a car from a relative’s house. The SIT took the duo into custody. The police would bring them to Guntur late on Monday night.
It may be recalled that Lakshmi is an accused in the suicide of PG medical student Dr B. Sandhya Rani. The victim in her suicide note alleged harassment by Lakshmi and held Lakshmi responsible for her death. The accused managed to flee from her house in Guntur and wandered in many areas with the help of family friend and realtor T. Hari Babu who was also arrested by the police on Sunday.
Sources said professor Vijaya Saradhi is very close to BJP ministers and the Telugu Desam and some officials had helped the couple to escape arrest. The couple hoped to secure bail from courts but the Guntur district court and the HC rejected the bail applications of Lakshmi.
The sources said the police formed seven special teams to track down the couple but it did not yield results as information was leaked to the couple. Higher police officials put the phones of Lakshmi's family, lawyers and friends under surveillance. The police first got information about family friend Hari Babu helping the couple by arranging vehicles, money and accommodation and arrested him on Sunday.
The sources said that as the source of money was cut by the arrest of Hari Babu, Lakshmi decided to surrender and contacted cops. In view of the importance of the case police rejected her proposal.
