Driver arrested for death of three Kochi Metro workers

The police also took into custody the bullet tanker lorry he drove when the incident happened.

Kochi: Rajasthan native Ram Chandra (27) was arrested by the Aluva police on Saturday for causing the death of three workers engaged in Kochi Metro related works on Thursday midnight along the National Highway at Muttom near Aluva, in what was found as a hit and run case. The police also took into custody the bullet tanker lorry he drove when the incident happened. Ram Chandra is the son of Nimbaram from Nagaur. A police team led by CI Vishal Johnson effected the arrest. He was later produced before the court and was remanded to custody.

The deceased hailed from Sonebhadra district of Uttar Pradesh – Bablu Mashis (42), Umesh Bibar (23) and Soorya Kanth (32). Another worker, Indradutt (22), also from Uttar Pradesh, was seriously injured. The four were contractual workers with the L&T. The bullet tanker hit them when the four were returning after putting up a barricade to regulate traffic.
