Four students held for trespassing into Belagavi airport
Belagavi: Tension prevailed in Belagavi airport when 12 students of a local madrassa trespassed into a prohibited area by climbing a 12-foot high wall on Friday afternoon. Soon after their movements was observed in CCTVs, the airport security personnel chased them and took four into custody, while the rest fled.
According to police, all the 12 were students of a madrasa located at Panthbalekundri, near Belagavi, and had almost reached the tarmac. The police are yet to ascertain why they got into a prohibited area. They trespassed while they were on their way to madrasa, located 2 kilometres away from the airport.
Madrasa sources said the students entered the airport as they were curious to view the landing of flights from close quarters. Eight of them escaped after climbing the fence.
After the four were caught, a team of Belagavi police rushed to the airport and took them into custody. As part of the preliminary investigation, the police called and questioned the management members of madrasa.
The police are trying to find out how the airport security personnel failed to notice the students while they were scaling the wall.
