Hyderabad: Man held for stealing laptops

Of all the places, doormats, shoes and shoe racks are the favourite places for hiding keys, making the theft easier.

Hyderabad: Panjagutta Police apprehended a man and seized 15 laptops and two mobiles that he had allegedly stolen from hostels in Panjagutta and Ameerpet.

“Since such offenders are young and have stayed in hostels, they know where to look for keys and guards do not suspect them,” said ACP, Panjagutta, Vijay Kumar. He said such offenders entered hostels under the pretext of meeting a friend or getting admission.

The ACP said the accused, identified as Gopi Pavan alias Sathwik, 27, of Ganeshnagar in Chintal, Balanagar, used to work as a manager in hospitals and was addicted to leading a lavish life.

“He was sacked and hatched a plan to steal laptops and gadgets from boys’ hostels,” the official said.

Pavan was arrested following a tip off and the stolen gadgets were recovered from his possession, following which he was sent to judicial remand.

The ACP added that cameras were installed and watchmen were asked to check the ID card of visitors at hostels.

“We warned the owners to keep a watch on the movements of people and to keep the CCTV in working order for easier crime detection,” the official said.

“Of all the places, doormats, shoes and shoe racks are the favourite places for hiding keys, making the theft easier. As the men sharing a flat have different shifts, the person leaving late in the night leaves the door ajar, allowing the next person to come in the next day early in the morning,” said Vijay Kumar
