Tamil Nadu: Victim's dad pleads CJ to revoke rapist's bail
Chennai: A day after the Chengalpet mahila court granted bail to the 22-year-old S. Dhasvanth, who sexually assaulted, murdered and burnt a seven-year-old girl in Moulivakkam, the girl’s father requested the Chief Justice of Madras high court to revoke the bail.
R. Ganesh (name changed), the victim’s father, was down in the dumps. The fact that the judicial system has stood against his cause, has been tormenting him, even though he is determined to fight unless the accused is given a ‘capital punishment.’
“I want capital punishment for the accused. I will fight till I get the justice. I don’t want any child to suffer in his hands like my daughter did,” said Ganesh to the media on Wednesday.
Dhasvanth was granted bail on Tuesday, even though he was detained under the Goondas Act. Ganesh had to relocate temporarily to Andhra Pradesh, making trips to Chennai for his work and on his daughter’s case. The distressed father, who was not interested to talk to the media opened up on Wednesday, as he said, “Our family has not come out of the brutal incident. My wife is so depressed that we need to disconnect the television connection at home so that the news about our daughter would not trouble her. But, the accused on the other hand was granted the bail.”
Ganesh, also revealed about how the father of the accused challenged him to bring his son out of the bail. “It is my humble request for all the advocates to not support such people. How can the children ever be safe amid the people with heinous intentions,” questioned the father, also requesting for a speedy trial of the case.
Vijayalakshmi Devarajan, Director-HR & operations women achiever, ministry of women and child development, Government of India, also present at the press meet, said that the loopholes in the law need to be rectified. “Every 8 out of 100 children are prone to sexual abuse. The number is increasing, only because the law is not stringent,” she pointed out.
